ochun is a great cuban band, think of the
vibe of buena vista social club. please check the ochun myspace page
to see where ochun is playing next; the band performs on
a weekly basis. i also recorded on their most recent cd,
"en el ano de ochun," which is available at stores
and through their website, www.ochunmusic.com. in 2006 the
band was nominated for 3 grammy award categories and travelled
with me to china in october, where we played several club
gigs in a few cities and the shanghai fuxing international
jazz festival, an event that I was also the m.c. for. in
the name of the album, it feels like it is "el ano
de ochun."
